The 2013 Congress will be uniquely situated in the heart of London’s business district, allowing us unprecedented access to some of the capital’s most iconic corporate venues, whilst giving this event a different feel to previous ALDE Party Congresses.
Please bear in mind that the Congress will be split across multiple locations in Canary Wharf including the East Wintergarden (plenary venue) and the 10 Upper Bank Street office block (fringe and other auxiliary venues). Detailed information on locations and transport will be provided in your Congress handbook and via the Congress app, there will also be volunteers on hand at both venues.
If you have any concerns about the venue or any mobility and access problems, please don’t hesitate to get in touch via the contact details below.
Canary Wharf and London offer a wide range of different accommodation options. Delegates are responsible for booking their own accommodation and making travel arrangements, but the ALDE Party has block booked over 500 rooms in seven different hotels around the City which are available to delegates at a special discounted rate.
These seven hotels cater for all budgets and are spread around the City, some located closer to the Congress venue for convenience; others located closer into the centre of London for those who want to make the most of this opportunity to explore the UK’s capital.
Details of the hotels have been sent to all International Officers of ALDE member parties. Please contact your party’s International Officer for further information.
Please note that the deadlines for booking these rooms at our special discounted rates are fast approaching, so you need to make your reservations as soon as possible.
London is of course very well connected and therefore convenient for your travel arrangements. London’s four main airports are Heathrow, Gatwick, City & Stansted. The closest airport to the Congress venue is City airport with transfer via London underground, bus or taxi. Heathrow, Gatwick & Stansted airports all provide regular rail and coach transfers into central London. Stansted and Gatwick airports offer the largest number of low-cost flights.
Other transport options from the Continent include: Eurostar from Paris, Lille and Brussels, with a connecting rail network across Europe. Eurostar trains arrive into St. Pancras Station in London, connected to the Congress venue at Canary Wharf by the London underground, London buses and taxis; travel by road via the EuroTunnel or cross-channel ferries, please note that parking in central London is extremely difficult and costly.
Detailed information on transport will be provided in your Congress handbook and via the Congress app; there will also be volunteers on hand at both venues. For any questions in the meantime, please consult the Transport for London website
