Liberal leaders meet in Brussels on 8 December 2011

The parliamentary elections in Croatia were a veritable success for Croatia's Liberals! European Liberal Democrat and Reform party members Croatian People's Party and Istrian Democratic Assembly were both part of the winning coalition and will be leading the negotiations for government. Complimenting party leaders Radimir Čačić (HNS) and Ivan Jakovčić (IDS) for superb efforts on the campaign trail, Sir Graham Watson party president says “In addition to finding the excellent electoral results delighting, we also consider it important to see Croatia gaining liberal leadership at this crucial transitory phase, when Croatia is about to enter the European Union. The ELDR were the first in Europe to call for a positive attitude to the ambitions towards the EU for the Western Balkans, and continue to do so to this day for the countries that are yet to achieve this.”

The economic situation of the European Union and the adhesion of Croatia will be the main topics of discussion of the meeting of Liberal party leaders, ministers and commissioners on Thursday 8 December between 16.00 and 17.30.
