Ahead of the annual ALDE-CALD Summit, the delegation of Asian Liberal and Democrats led by Chairman Hon. Sam Rainsy visited the headquarters of the ELDR Party.
ELDR Secretary General Federica Sabbati and head of political unit Philipp Hansen engaged in intensive discussions with the senior politicians from Asia debating the European debt crisis and what bold steps the European Union needs to take to return to a path of economic growth and political stability.
The group also exchanged views and best campaign practices how transnational federations such as the ELDR or CALD can be of benefit to its member parties. ELDR underlined its recent campaign and parliamentary initiatives in support of its members from the Southern Caucasus s regards the worrying tendencies to further restrict the exercise of democratic and individual freedoms in countries such as Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
