Women in power – the new role of women in politics: a talk with Margrethe Vestager
ALDE Party’s individual members are honoured to welcome European Commissioner Margrethe Vestager to join them for a talk in Lisbon, Portugal, on Monday 6 November 2017 at 17h00. You and your friends are kindly invited to join the event.
Mrs Vestager is said to be the most powerful woman in Brussels. In charge of the EU’s competition policy, Vestager is shaping the European Union as we speak by making sure the market works in a fair way for everyone.
The subject of the event will be “women in power – the new role of women in politics”. We have seen in recent years the rise of women to positions of power in many countries of the European Union. There are now 4 female Presidents and 3 female Prime Ministers in the 28 EU member states, many ministers, mayors, MPs and MEPs, and 9 out of the 28 European Commissioners. However, politics of Portugal lacks the same strength: Portuguese women seem, in general, not to care a lot about politics. This event is the occasion for discussing life stories and learning lessons and possible strategies that can lead to a bigger participation of women in the Portuguese political scene.
