EU's response to Ukraine so far inadequate
Reacting to news of escalating violence in Ukraine, ALDE Party candidate Guy Verhofstadt said "The High Representative should urgently convene the EU Foreign Ministers to an extra-ordinary meeting of the Council on the escalating crisis in Ukraine."

European liberals deplore imprisonment Russian environmentalist
ALDE Party President Sir Graham Watson MEP is alarmed by the news that Russian environmentalist and YABLOKO member Evgeny Vitishko is on hunger strike in a prison since one week. Sir Graham said: "Evgeny Vitishko must be freed."

NEOS elects EP candidates
Last weekend, the Austrian liberals of NEOS selected their list of candidates. A vote among the party's members at the general assembly completed a three step ballot, which confirmed Angelika Mlinar as the party's lead candidate.

Charles Goerens leads DP list for European elections
On Thursday, Luxembourg's liberal MEP Charles Goerens was re-selected to lead the party's list of candidates for the upcoming European elections. Goerens said: "More understanding, more respect, more tolerance. Europe can realise this, but should be allowed to do so."

Folkpartiet Liberalerna EP list approved
Commenting on her re-election, last weekend, as Folkpartiet Liberalerna's lead candidate, Marit Paulsen said: "I am glad that the members feel that the lady should be allowed to continue the work. Now it's up to me to prove to voters that I am the right lady for the job."

Belgian parliament approves new euthanasia law
Last week, Belgium's lower house of parliament approved a new euthanasia law which extends the legislation to minors. In a free vote, most liberal parliamentarians voted in favour, such as Open Vld President Gwendolyn Rutten who explained her point of view on CNN.

Liberals among MEP awards shortlist
On Monday, the Parliament Magazine announced the shortlist for this year's MEP Awards - which includes six liberals - which will not only recognise the hard work done by MEPs in the past year, but over the past parliamentary term. The awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday 18 March.
