The ALDE Party’s lead candidate for European Commission President Guy Verhofstadt was also the head of list for the European elections for the Belgian Open Vld. He obtained a monster score of more than 530.000 preference votes.

Liberals lead the way in the Netherlands
ALDE Party member D66 has won the European elections in the Netherlands and has become the biggest party with 15.4%, ahead of the Christian Democrats, while the VVD of Dutch liberal Prime Minister Mark Rutte, also increased its share of votes to 11.9%. D66 gained one seat and will have four MEPs.

SFP record best election result since 1950; Olli Rehn elected MEP
In Finland, ALDE had a very successful night and became the largest political grouping in the country. ALDE Party join lead candidate Olli Rehn obtained the second highest number of preferential votes overall. Also Svenska Folkpartiet exceeded all expectations.

Radikale win an MEP in strong showing in Denmark poll
Denmark’s Radikale Venstre party won an increased 6.5% of the vote in the European election and won an MEP seat with spidsenkandidat Morten Helveg Petersen to represent the party in Brussels for the next five years.

Austrian Liberals NEOS win seat in the European Parliament
Austrian ALDE Party member party NEOS elected one MEP to the European Parliament on Sunday with Spitzenkandidatin Angelika Mlinar taking her seat in Brussels. Just six months after entering the Austrian Parliament for the first time, the party won 8.1% of the vote and elected its first MEP.

ALDE dominates in Estonia
Following what became a very tight race in the end, ALDE’s two member parties Reformierakond and Keskerakond managed to return 50 % of Estonia’s MEPs again, with Reformierakond claiming two and Keskerakond one.

Progress for ALDE in Lithuania
Through an extremely well-run campaign, ALDE’s member party Liberalu Sajudis managed to not only increase their share of MEPs from one to two, but were not very far from becoming the country’s largest party with all the votes counted.
