Charles Michel is the new Prime Minister of Belgium
At 38, Belgian liberal Charles Michel is the country’s youngest Prime Minister in history. After successful negotiations, which lasted four months, Michel swore oath to Belgium’s King Philippe on Saturday morning. He is the third Liberal Prime Minister from the Benelux.

Juncker approves new Slovenian Commissioner-designate Violeta Bulc
Last Friday, Miro Cerar, the Prime Minister of Slovenia, nominated Violeta Bulc to replace Alenka Bratušek as Slovenia’s Commissioner-designate. ALDE group leader Guy Verhofstadt met with Bulc on Monday and said he was very pleased and was looking forward to the hearing.

Associate members elect their two delegates to Congress

Study launch to be held in European Parliament on European populism
A recent ELF study explores the bases of anti-immigration arguments and ways to refute them. In the upcoming Ralf Dahrendorf conference on Wednesday 5 November, the authors will discuss support for populist, anti-immigration parties in the wake of the financial crisis.
