Liberal Movement in Lithuania wins mayor of capital Vilnius
ALDE Party member Liberal Movement candidate Remigijus Šimašius won the mayor seat in the capital Vilnius. Following his election, Šimašius said: “I am sure that Vilnius can quickly become one of the best cities in Europe. My job is to help people create the life that they dream about.”

'The people of Iceland should be deciding about EU membership'
Following the announcement on Friday by the Icelandic Government to withdraw its application to join the EU, Guðmundur Steingrímsson, the leader of ALDE Party Member in Iceland, Björt framtíð (Bright Future), said: "For us, Iceland has not withdrawn its application to become an EU Member State."

Liberal Democrats meet for their Spring Conference ahead of general elections
The UK Liberal Democrats met in Liverpool last weekend for their Spring Conference as the election campaign enters the final stretch with less than 50 days to go until the poll on May 7. The party's Leader Nick Clegg said: "Make no mistake, the recovery would not be happening without the Liberal Democrats.”

Liberals to meet ahead of European Council
Ahead of Thursday's European Council in Brussels, at the invitation of ALDE Party President Sir Graham Watson, liberal Prime Ministers and European Commissioners will meet in Brussels on 19 March.

Gender equality moving forward in Finland and Catalonia
In February, Finland ratified the Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence and on 5 March the Catalonian Parliament agreed to pass the Equality Bill which would be the first law on gender equality in Catalonia by the end of June.
