Denmark will go to the polls on 18 June
On Wednesday 27 May, Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt (Social Democrats) announced elections will be held on Thursday 18 June. Following the announcement, the two ALDE member parties in Denmark, Venstre and Radikale Venstre have said they are ready.

Anneli Jäätteenmäki takes over as EP Vice-President
Last week, Finnish MEP Anneli Jäätteenmäki was elected as Vice-President of the European Parliament. Jäätteenmäki took over as EP Vice-President from fellow Centre Party member Olli Rehn, who was elected to the Finnish Parliament in April.

Traditional parties receive beating in local elections in Spain
On Sunday, the conservative Partido Popular and the Partido Socialista Obrero Español received a red card from Spanish voters. Several parties emerged with strong results, including the market-friendly Ciudadanos. ALDE Party member CDC received the most votes in Catalonia.

Dutch ALDE member parties win Senate elections
Congratulations to our Dutch member parties with their victory in yesterday's elections for the country's Senate! ALDE Party member VVD of Prime Minister Mark Rutte remains the number one party in the country, while the other ALDE Party member D66 of Alexander Pechtold doubles to 10 seats.

Riga hosts Eastern Partnership summit
On the occasion of the fourth Eastern Partnership summit, held last week in Riga, ALDE MEP Petras Austrevicius in an open letter called on the EU to offer a clearer European perspective for the member states of the Eastern Partnership. His open letter received strong support from MEPs.

In the coming days and weeks, individual members of the ALDE Party will hold events across Europe. You are kindly invited to events in Athens (Greece), Brussels (Belgium), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Amsterdam (Netherlands) and Düsseldorf (Germany)! Friedrich Naumann Foundation South East Europe launches video competition for equality
The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom recently launched a video campaign to promote equality. Under the banner of #JustLikeYou, the campaign aims to raise awareness of human rights. You can still submit your video until 3 June.
