The late Boris Nemtsov’s ‘Putin.War’ report launched in European Parliament
Tuesday 16 June in the European Parliament saw the launch of two independent reports on the war in Ukraine including the report entitled ‘Putin. War’ that had been the initiative and work of RPR-Parnas co-chairman Boris Nemtsov when he was assassinated in Moscow in February 2015.

Pro-European parties are ahead in Moldovan local elections
Last Sunday, Moldovan citizens could vote in local elections. According to the official outcome, pro-European forces have taken the majority in 25 municipalities; the socialists and communists in the remaining seven, upsetting forecasts of a big win for the pro-Moscow camp.

Last weekend in Zürich, Liberals from across the world took part in a diverse programme of debates covering topics from digital freedom to combatting populism. They also witnessed the awarding of the 2015 LI Prize for Freedom to LI Past President, Lord John Alderdice.

Anne Brasseur: situation in Azerbaijan is unacceptable
Last Friday, the European Olympic Games opened in Baku. In an interview, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Anne Brasseur, criticised the human rights violations in Azerbaijan: "While sport must not do politics, politics must not abuse sport to do politics."

Last week, the European Parliament adopted a key joint resolution on the situation in Hungary. The paragraph reflecting the ALDE proposal for a mechanism to monitor and enforce fundamental rights, the rule of law and democracy received the support of Parliament.

Last Thursday, individual members in Düsseldorf, Germany, had the chance to exchange views with ALDE Party President Sir Graham Watson. In a lively debate, they discussed questions such as population growth, climate change and energy security, and the development of individual membership.

Individual members in the Netherlands elect coordinators
This week, individual members in the Netherlands had the chance to participate in an online election to elect two country coordinators. Sarah Lenders-Valenti and Leonard den Hollander received most votes and are elected. Nearly 80% of eligible voters participated in these elections.
