The Prime Minister of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel has been awarded the medal of Liberalism of Liberal International. “I have always been fighting for liberalism and liberal values and I want to emphasise that for us liberals the economy is of importance but so too are human beings,” said Bettel.
From 20 to 24 June the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe hosts its plenary session in Strasbourg, where ALDE-PACE adopted a statement condemning harassment and physical attacks against politicians and journalists in Georgia. Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Roivas also addressed the plenary.
The opinions of Liberal rapporteurs Ossi Martikainen (Keskusta) on food waste and Bart Somers (Open VLD) on tackling radicalisation were high on the agenda of last week's Committee of the Regions' plenary. This was also the last plenary sesssion of Bas Verkerk as President of the ALDE Group in the CoR.
At the start of every summer, the Danish political parties come together to discuss with citizens the key issues of today. This year's Folkemøde took place on the island of Bornholm, where ALDE Party members Venstre and Radikale Venstre actively participated.
