European Liberals mourn the loss of Leonidas Donskis
Leonidas Donskis, member of the ALDE Group in the European Parliament from 2009 to 2014, suddenly passed away this morning. ALDE Party President Hans van Baalen MEP, who was Donskis' colleague, said: "In the liberal family will miss him and we will not forget him, a great liberal and a close friend."

Open, tolerant and united - LibDems adopt plan for Britain in Europe
The UK Liberal Democrats gathered in Brighton this weekend for their Autumn Congress, promising to be the only political party fighting to keep Britain open, tolerant and united. In a move, praised by Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron, the ALDE Party Bureau held its latest Bureau meeting in its fringes.

Time for the next Berlin: FDP back in Parliament
German Liberals scored successfully in last Sunday’s City State parliamentary elections in Berlin. FDP re-entered the Parliament with 6,7% and 12 MPs. FDP federal chairman Christian Lindner commented that these elections were yet another important step towards the goal of next year’s federal elections.

Parliamentary elections in Russia: another Putin show
On Sunday 18 September Russian citizens went to the polls to elect a new State Duma. Commenting on the results of the parliamentary elections in Russia, ALDE Party President Hans van Baalen MEP said: “The Duma elections were yet another Putin show, without a free and fair chance for the opposition.”

Liberal local and regional politicians take the lead on age-friendly tourism
As part of the EU’s objectives of promoting active and healthy ageing, a delegation from the ALDE Group in the Committee of the Regions visited the Estonian municipalities of Haapsalu and Rae to learn best practices in health tourism put into practice by Mayors from ALDE Party member Reformierakond.
