Liberal leaders meet ahead of Pre-Summit to discuss EU Trade and Brexit
Liberal Prime Ministers and European Commissioners met at the Egmont Palace in Brussels on Thursday 20 October ahead of the European Council Summit of the same day. Crucial topics were discussed such as the current status of Brexit, the EU-Canada trade deal and the refugee crisis.

Liberals set to have a strong voice in Lithuanian Parliament
On Sunday 23 October Lithuanian citizens voted in a second round of parliamentary elections. ALDE Party member Liberalai successfully increased their number of MPs, from 8 seats in the first round to 14 seats in total after the second round, achieving the largest parliamentary group in the party's history.

LibDem Fightback continues in Witney MP by-election
The UK Liberal Democrats are hailing a "return to the big time" after recording a strong result in a by-election on 20 October in Witney, the seat of the former Prime Minister David Cameron. The LibDems dented the Conservative majority and secured one of the party’s best by-election results in decades.

Liberals in the European Parliament lead push for pact for fundamental rights
This week, the European Parliament has given broad support to Liberal MEP Sophie in ‘t Veld's legislative initiative report, calling on the European Commission to submit a proposal for an objective and non-politicised mechanism to protect democracy, rule of law and fundamental rights in the EU.

Individual members in Spain have elected their country coordinators
On Friday, the online polls closed for individual members in Spain to elect their three country coordinators. Members could elect from six candidates. Oriol Rosés i Bello, David Marinas Garcia and Eduardo Roca were elected. Congratulations!

After successful editions in 2013 and 2015, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom organises again the International Comic Competition "Animate Europe" in an attempt to invite artists to take a different look at the often abstract European Union.
