Individual members elect their delegates
Francesca Mercanti from Italy, Amélie Pans from Belgium and Wolf Achim Wiegand from Germany were elected as ALDE Party Congress delegates by the individual members, while steering committee member Chris Pyak was elected as the Council delegate.

ALDE Party President expresses support to LDP Macedonia
ALDE Party President Hans van Baalen MEP travelled to Macedonia to have meetings with the highest government officials and the leadership of ALDE member Liberal Democratic Party. "I am happy to be back in Macedonia which has turned a new democratic page," said van Baalen.

YABLOKO activist passes away after attacked guarding Boris Nemtsov memorial
Russian ALDE Party member YABLOKO has sadly reported that one of their activists and members Ivan Skripnichenko has died following injuries he sustained in an attack while he was guarding the memorial to Boris Nemtsov on the Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge in Moscow.

Vince Cable is the new leader of the UK Liberal Democrats
On 20 July Sir Vince Cable was unveiled as the new leader of the UK Liberal Democrats after no other candidate put themselves forward to take over the party following the resignation of Tim Farron. The new LibDem leadership team also now includes Jo Swinson MP who was elected unanimously as deputy leader.

Liberals march for LGBTI rights across Europe
Over the summer, many capitals across Europe have hosted their annual Pride Parades, where ALDE member parties and politicians marched for LGBTI rights. Stockholm, Amsterdam, Madrid or Copenhagen are some of the cities where Liberal politicians took the streets for freedom and equality.

Successful launch of ALDE-CoR’s 1st Young Elected Leaders Summit
At the invitation of the ALDE Group in the Committee of the Regions, young local and regional elected politicians of the ALDE family gathered in Brussels to exchange experiences, learn about new economic models and get to know how the Belgian liberal parties prepare for the 2018 local elections.

As the ALDE Party Congress approaches, we are delighted to welcome a new intern in the Events and Fundraising Unit of the ALDE Party Secretariat: Fanny Trimpont. Her main task will be to help in the organisation of the ALDE Party Congress in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in December.
