As part of a joint event series of FNF Europe and ALDE Party, we welcomed today the Estonian Prime Minister Jüri Ratas to speak about the first half of the Estonian EU Presidency: "There is more optimism concerning the future of our Union than a year ago. But we still have a lot of work ahead of us."
Convening in Bratislava at the launch of the vision of a new political movement in Slovakia, central European liberal and progressive forces announced a new regional partnership to cooperate and give a stronger voice to the region, including NEOS, Nowoczesna, Momentum Hungary and Progresívne Slovensko.
From 16 to 19 September the UK Liberal Democrats gathered in Bournemouth for their 2017 Autumn Conference. This conference was the first of new Liberal Democrat leader Sir Vince Cable since his election in July. "Our position is clear: the Liberal Democrats are the party of Remain," he said.
Last weekend our Danish member party Radikale Venstre came together in Nyborg for their annual Landsmøde. As the next Danish local elections will be held on 21 November, the conference served as a warm-up for the election campaign with inspirational speeches from Morten Østergaard and Margrethe Vestager.
On Saturday 16 September ALDE Party President Hans van Baalen MEP travelled to Lisbon to take part in the Future of European Democracy Summit, organised by a Portuguese liberal movement Iniciativa Liberal. Former Estonian PM Taavi Roivas also addressed the participants on how to digitalise democracy.
