65th anniversary of the first liberal parliamentary group

Already 65 years ago, Liberals were ahead of the curve and formed the first transnational parliamentary group in the common assembly of the European Coal and Steel Community, the predecessor of today’s European Parliament.

European Liberals mark this anniversary in turbulent times where many seem to forget the very foundations and raison d’être of cross-border cooperation.

European Liberals yesterday, today and tomorrow continue to build societies based on the fundamental human desire for freedom. It is ever more important today to remember that the foundations for a community based on the principles of an open society and open market were built 65 years and today’s Liberals continue to be the torchbearers of freedom.
