ALDE Party President Hans van Baalen supports President of France Emmanuel Macron in defending Laïcité. Van Baalen states that in France, this protects all citizens from discrimination.

According to President van Baalen, President Macron has not only the right but also the duty to defend the concept of French Laïcité in the media and in the society in a bold, straight-forward way. Naturally, it goes without saying that the media from their side should be able to criticise politicians, while separating established facts from opinions.

We cannot let political correctness become our own worst enemy, President van Baalen says, asking everyone to ‘call a spade a spade’. Islamist extremism is a threat to us all, and France is showing an example to all of us.
