Anders Adlercreutz was elected as the new leader of ALDE Party member Svenska Folkpartiet (SFP) at a party Congress in Helsinki on 16 June.
Adlercreutz is Finland’s current Minister for Education, having been the Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering between 2023 and 2024, who has been representing SFP as a Member of Parliament for the Uusima constituency since 2015.

“I am extremely happy and grateful for the great support and confidence I have received from the party Congress today. There is now a demand for SFP politics. As other parties drift more to the left and right, we have an open playing field,” Adlercreutz told members.
“If we are to continue to promote what is important to SFP - an open and tolerant society and a bilingual Finland - we need a strong mandate from our voters, and that is what we will strive for. Work for next year's municipal and regional elections starts now.”

Ramieza Mahdi, Silja Borgarsdóttir Sandelin and Sandra Bergqvist were elected SFP Vice-Presidents.
Outgoing leader Anna-Maja Henriksson, who left her role after eight years to become a Member of the European Parliament, addressed Congress in a final speech.
“My aim has always been to strengthen SFP in the political liberal centre and to grow. We are needed at all levels: in municipalities, in regions, Parliament, in government and the EU. And we have worked towards that: I feel great pride in all that we have achieved,” she said.
Stort grattis Anders @adleande , vår nya partiordförande.

“The European Community began as a peace project, and we are currently living in uncertain times, when we need a strong EU. I want to promote stability and peace in Europe, a secure and people-oriented EU, continued support for Ukraine, growth, free movement and a strong internal market.”
