ALDE Party hosts expert workshops to develop Manifesto

On 22, 27 and 28 February, the ALDE Party Manifesto Drafting Committee organised five expert workshops to gather external expertise and knowledge from civil society, policy experts, academia and the private sector. All workshops were chaired by members of the Committee.  

The first workshop addressed the future of globalisation and was chaired by Henrik Bach Mortensen, ALDE Party Vice-President. Participants focused on the challenges and opportunities for Europe in the current global order and for Europe to be more self-sufficient.   

The second workshop dealt with security and defence, and was chaired by Anna Stürgkh. Participants looked at the existing mechanisms and instruments available to strengthen Europe's defence and security capabilities, as well as its strengths and weaknesses.  

The third workshop focused on sustainable economy, particularly the challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss to the economy, industry and society, as well as how to deliver a successful green transition. It was moderated by Estonian MP Yoko Alenderand included a session with European Commission Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager 

Stientje van Veldhoven chaired the fourth workshop, addressing the issue of creating a resilient labour force. Participants discussed the challenges of the economic and cost-of-living crises and the green and digital transitions for jobs and the labour market, as well as the type of measures and instruments needed to build a resilient labour force.     

Another workshop was chaired by Dan Barna, USR Vice-President and Member of the Romanian Parliament, on the issue of corruption and enforcement of rules. Participants discussed the existing and new tools and mechanisms to address corruption and deliver to citizens and protect democracies.
