On 30 October, ALDE Party President Hans van Baalen was promoted as knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. Those who have made a special contribution to the Dutch society can have this honour bestowed on them.
President van Baalen is a long-standing parliamentarian and defender of democracy. He was a member of the Dutch parliament from 1999 to 2002 and from 2003 to 2009 and a member of the European Parliament from 2009 until 2019. He also served as President of the Liberal International from 2009 until 2014 before becoming the organisation’s President of Honour.
In 2015 ALDE Congress in Budapest, van Baalen was elected as ALDE Party President. His mandate was renewed in 2019 Congress in Athens. President van Baalen is a strong promoter of liberal values and the interests of Europe’s liberals across the world.
