11 July marked the 25th commemoration of the massacre of Srebrenica: in 1995, Serbian general Ratko Mladić orderd his troops to overrun Srebrenica and capture all men and boys. In total, 8,000 victims were buried in mass graves.
Mladić faced trial in The Hague by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and was senteced to life in prison in 2017.
ALDE Party President Hans van Baalen was among the many European and world leaders who commemorated the day and the victims who lost their lives, higlighting the moral duty we all have to prevent these kinds of atrocities from ever happening again.
