ALDE President urges EU leaders to act on Hungary

Thousands of people signed our petition earlier this month, asking the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council to take action against Hungary’s Viktor Orbán after the passing of the Authorisation Act.

ALDE Party President Hans van Baalen has now written to Presidents of the European Commission and the European Council, urging them to take concrete action against these measures implemented by the Hungarian government. While Orbán has begun to reduce democracy in Hungary, the country is receiving the largest amount of funds from the EU's Corona Virus Response Investment Initiative. Hard hit countries, such as Italy, are only receiving 2.3 billion euros from the fund, while Hungary will receive 5.6 billion euros.

Our petition shows that our supporters want appropriate action to be taken against the Hungarian government now!
