What we do
Our mission is to create change by empowering women in Europe to pursue their political ambitions; championing their efforts every step of the way; mobilising to dismantle the gendered barriers that stand in their path; and fighting every day for a future shaped by their voices. We do this by:
- Delivering world-leading academies for talented, ambitious liberal women at all stages of their political journey.*
- Harnessing the collective power of our growing alumnae and allies’ network and sharing resources, expertise and inspiration.
- Fearlessly and creatively advocating towards a more gender equal European politics.
[* Participants that hold elected office or intend to run in an election campaign during the academy or up to 12 months are required to cover costs independently. For more information please contact The Alliance Of Her team or refer to our website.]
Our areas of work
1. Allies and Alumnae Network
Our alumnae of over 130 women is a powerful, influential network sharing knowledge, experience and inspiration. Alumnae are connected via online forums as well as through events and other initiatives, such as issuing political statements on events taking place in Europe and around the world.
The Alliance Of Her benefits from the generous support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and the European Liberal Forum, as well as the European Parliament. We also count numerous individual supporters and partners from the private sector and from civil society as allies working with us to achieve our mission.
Our goal is to expand this network and create stronger connections between our partners, allies and our alumnae. This means more opportunities to take part in events and initiatives as The Alliance Of Her grows over the coming years.
Our Academies are what power The Alliance Of Her and what makes us truly unique. Our mission and ambition extend directly from our success running this world-class program not available anywhere else. Those that complete our academies guide our advocacy and influencing efforts. We offer two major academies, and we hope to more to this in the coming years.
Previously known as ‘the European Women’s Academy’, our academies provide support and inspiration to a select number of talented, up-and-coming liberal women in each year.* Each academy provides an empowering, informative and enabling space where participants can exchange ideas, strategies and experiences alongside political experts and successful individuals from diverse backgrounds. Academies are organised annually, with participants usually meeting in person for three four-day sessions in a relaxing setting far from distractions.
Over the course of the Academy, participants can develop their political strategies, build their knowledge of key political techniques, identify pathways for overcoming gendered barriers, get inspired and expand their network. [*Participants that hold elected office or intend to run in an election campaign during the academy or up to 12 months are required to cover costs independently. For more information please contact The Alliance Of Her team or refer to our website.]
We know that our vision of a world where men and women are equal in power and politics will not be possible without addressing the deeper structural, social and cultural norms that allow inequality to continue.
This is why in addition to our academies we provide to liberal women in politics, we influence to achieve change through evidence-based advocacy and creative awareness raising to the broader public.
The Alliance Of Her works with our greatest asset – our Alumnae – to make as visible as possible the status of women in politics, their lived experiences, why their voices are important and what solutions we can all be a part of to ensure more of them are able to lead and succeed. We do this primarily through policy and PR events, research, and campaigns.
