Field of expertise: Environmental policy
Brigitte van den Berg started getting engaged in politics in Beverwijk, North Holland, in 2010. She was elected as a councillor in 2018, working on a portfolio encompassing accessibility and infrastructure, labour market and participation, education, arts and culture, real estate policy and animal welfare. She was re-elected in 2022, taking on more policy areas including environment and economy.
She found her passion for Europe during an exchange leading to a Master's degree in European Union Studies at Leiden University and membership of the Council of Europe. As an MEP, Brigitte wants to work for a social green transition, for peace, human rights and for a connected Europe.
In 2024, she was placed third in D66's list of candidates for the European elections, and was elected as a Member of the European Parliament alongside lead candidate Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy and Raquel García Hermida-van der Walle.
"We desperately need each other. Especially now, I want to contribute to a strong Europe; bridging differences. Because Europe ensures that we live in peace, freedom and prosperity," she said.
