On Saturday 18 May, liberals in Belgium and across Europe will take to the streets for the Belgian Pride in Brussels and show support for the LGBTQIA+ community in a celebration across the city.
ALDE Party, Mouvement Réformateur, Open VLD, LYMEC, Jeunes MR, Jong VLD and various other liberal representatives such as the Rainbow Platform will take a stand for freedom and equality and prove that love is love regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
As previous years, European liberals will come together under the slogan “Kiss Me, I’m Liberal”, with the parade to start at 14:00 in Mont Des Arts.
On Friday 17 May, ALDE Party will mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) with a panel discussion on the liberal efforts to advance LGBTQIA+ rights across Europe. Click here to find out how to join.
European liberals have been pushing to advance rights of sexual minorities and their families in Europe, banning forced conversion therapies targeting youth, pushing for the adoption of the Horizontal Equal Treatment Directive, ensuring LGBTQIA+ asylum seekers are safe and welcomed in Europe, and much more.
Despite Estonia and Greece recently legalising same-sex marriage, the fight for equality is far from over. The 2023 ILGA-Europe Annual Review found an exceptional increase in reported verbal and physical violence against trans people, with Pride events being increasingly targeted.
That is just one of the reasons why we continue to advocate for more LGBTQIA+ rights everywhere in Europe. You can find out more about our liberal fight for equality here.
