Ciudadanos gains more seats in Spain

The ALDE member party Ciudadanos in Spain increased its vote in the country’s snap election held on 28 April by 30%. Going from 32 to 57 seats, the party nearly doubled the number of its representatives in the parliament, compared to the previous election in 2016.

Ciudadanos is now the third force nationally, surpassed only by the Socialists and the Partido Popular. However, in some regions, such as in Madrid and Andalusia, Ciudadanos is the second strongest force after the Socialists.

After the election, Ciudadanos leader Albert Rivera thanked the voters and commented: "Today is a very important day, not only for Spain, but also for Europe and the rest of Europeans, we have to look to the future, what is good for Spain is good for Europe."
