Promising and challenging: that is certainly the best qualification for the common goals of the new individual members’ Steering Committee (SC). At the end of the Annual General Meeting held at the ALDE Congress in Athens, it was emphasised that the new SC aims for improving transparency, efficiency and accountability.

According to Pascal Jacobs, the new Steering Committee communications officer, the SC will therefore take up the white paper advice and translate it into reform proposals. “Next to that we want to introduce at least one open Steering Committee meeting per year and organise a second yearly General Assembly”, he said. In the upcoming weeks the Steering Committee members will gather to further develop their plans. Enhancing public visibility, improving internal debate and communication, are also important themes at the agenda.

The Steering Committee was elected in September 2019 and took office at the Annual General Meeting, held at the recent ALDE Congress.
