Daniels Pavļuts re-elected Chairman as Kustība "Par!" convenes for congress

On Saturday 3 July, the ALDE Party member in Latvia Kustība "Par!" held its Congress and elected a new board and debated political objectives for the next political cycle.

The congress was opened by Daniels Pavļuts, current Minister for Health in the Latvian government, who was re-elected by members as the leader of the party.

Addressing the Congress, he said: "Our socially liberal party, the For! movement, was created four years ago. During this time, we have grown and experienced our first full political cycle and have achieved success in the elections to the Saeima, the European Parliament, the Riga City Council and local governments.”

"Our new board has intense work ahead of it. And this elected board is an outstanding team – from the point of view of performance, political experience, but also a new combination of energy, freshness and will. This is our strongest board to date,” he continued. "I thank you for the trust I have shown, but I would like to point out that for me this term of office will be the last. I feel a personal responsibility to defeat the pandemic and to bring in the Par Movement, also 14th the Saeima. We need to develop and move forward by listening to and hearing the different views and visions of the future in our party."

During the Congress, members also debated the recent municipal elections and the next steps for the party, preparations for the elections for the 14th Saeima (to be held on or before October 2022), the future of the party, brand strengthening and new political goals.

The Congress was held in person and participation was also facilitated via online tools.
