Benedetto Della Vedova was re-elected Secretary of the +Europa party, ALDE Party member party in Italy, as delegates of the party convened for its second national congress from 16 to 18 July 2021 in Rome.
Speaking at the Congress following his re-election, Mr Della Vedova, currently Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said: "We want to build an autonomous liberal-democratic, pro-European and ecological alternative for Italy, starting from the full and non-reticent support to the Draghi government and its agenda of reforms. A common political project of movements and personalities alternative to sovereignists and distinct and distant from populists".
Riccardo Magi, who was re-elected by delegates as President of +Europa, said: "the Covid emergency has shown everyone how vital a united Europe is. Only by going in the direction of European political integration will it be possible to put a stop to the crisis of democracies, to the erosion of the rule of law and fundamental rights that is taking place outside and inside the EU states".
Maria Saeli, who was elected the treasurer of +Europa, added: "next generation and female protagonism are not just words for us, but facts. It's time to propose a new vision of the future, which takes into account future generations and speaks of important issues such as the environment, rights, labour.”
Delegates attending the Congress also voted on proposals for amendments to the party’s articles of association.
