‘Dialogue for Liberty’ series launched with ALDE VP

On Thursday 9 September, ALDE Party Vice President Dita Charanzová MEP participated in the first of a series of online “Dialogue for Liberty” events organised in partnership with RELIAL – the Liberal Network of Latin America.

The discussion, which was chaired by Bertha Pantoja, the President of RELIAL, also featured Maria Corina Machado, a Venezuelan politician and leader of the party Vente Venezuela.

During the event, the speakers talked about the threat to democracy and liberty in Latin America, the human rights crisis that the region faces and how can the international community help. They also discussed other themes like the difficulties for women to lead in politics and the challenges liberal political parties face in Latin America and Europe.

In her contribution, Charanzová took the chance to stress the importance of the relationship between Europe and Latin America and talked about the European Union’s role as a promoter of democracy and human rights in the world.

I always say that the EU is there to help the democratic forces in those countries that face these kinds of challenges. I am Czech and, growing up under a communist regime, I remember how important international support was for my country at the time. I carry as my personal responsibility to bring the same thing to countries that are facing the same challenges mine was in the 80s,” she said.

Charanzová also took the opportunity to stress the European liberals commitment to defend their international partners rights and freedoms and work to make their wish for liberty a reality.
