On 15 June, ALDE member Demokratesch Partei in Luxembourg held an online congress that brought together around 600 party members from across the country and featured speakers such as Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, party leader Corinne Cahen, Secretary General Claude Lamberty as well as MEPs Monica Semedo and Charles Goerens, who tuned in from Brussels.
While the COVID-19 outbreak dominated the congress agenda, topics such as teleworking and taxation were also covered. Results of the elections to the party’s Director's Committee and the four Regional Committees were also discussed.
"As a liberal, limiting our liberties during this pandemic was very hard for me to inforce but it was necessary" said Prime Minister Xavier Bettel when adresseing the participants about the actions of his governement during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I cannot say we came out stronger of this crisis: some people lost their loved-ones, some have been very sick and some businesses were destroyed. But we might have learned something from this crisis." he added.
