DP presents programme for 2023 Luxembourg elections

On 8 July, ALDE Party member DP - Demokratesch Partei held a party Congress to present the full programme for Luxembourg's general election in October, confirming Prime Minister Xavier Bettel as its lead candidate.

Over 400 members gathered for the Congress to support Bettel, party President Lex Delles and the top regional candidates in the upcoming election campaign. The party announced it would put forward two lead candidates per region instead of one, with Minister of Finance Yuriko Backes confirmed to be running alongside Bettel in their constituency.

Under the slogan "No bei dir" (“Close to you”), the DP's election programme includes comprehensive measures to improve quality of life and to strengthen the purchasing power of people in Luxembourg to effectively support the needs of the middle class, families and businesses.

Over the next five years, the party aims to:

  • Relieve financial burdens on the middle class
  • Implement the energy transition across the population
  • Make affordable housing possible for all
  • Improve families’ everyday quality of life
  • Promote flexible and family-friendly working time models
  • Strengthen the skills of children and young people

Prime Minister Bettel reiterated his unwavering drive going into the upcoming elections: "'Close to you' is my everyday life. My motivation and my energy have rarely been as great as they are now. This is the time when it is important to make the right decisions".

Delles defined the goals of the party's policy in the coming years and recalled the great support for the party in the local elections a month ago. "The DP is the party of the future. We want to improve the quality of life and give the next generations their own room for maneuver. The DP has proven that we have the trust of the people in our politics: we will do everything in our power to earn the trust of the people in the national elections as well,” he said.

Finally, DP Secretary General Carole Hartmann stressed the DP's will to shape the future as a responsible party in challenging times: "The DP has proven over the last few years that it is the third political power in the country. In Luxembourg, the DP has a good hand with its Prime Minister Xavier Bettel."
