On 16 November, ALDE Party’s political foundation European Liberal Forum (ELF) held the Techno-Politics Forum, a conference featuring various panel discussions on Europe’s digital future.
Staged in Brussels, the event brought together politicians, tech experts, stakeholders, industry representatives and academics to discuss how new and future technologies can influence traditional policymaking.
After opening remarks by ELF Executive Director Alva Finn, the day kicked off with a discussion on aviation sustainability and using emerging technologies to tackle the energy crisis.
Jan-Christoph Oetjen MEP from ALDE Party member FDP in Germany, First Vice-President of ELF, argued the EU needs diverse democratic partners from across the world to help cover its energy needs.
"It’s an illusion to think that the energy mix needed by the EU will be covered by the EU’s internal renewable energies alone,” said Oetjen.
Throughout the day, participants debated on the challenges faced by the EU in terms of digital transformation and connectivity, and potential measures to balance the innovation and regulation of artificial intelligence.
The Techno-Politics Forum 2023 brought together industry leaders, politicians & academics to debate & share insights on some of the biggest issues facing Europe in the technological sphere!
