After almost a record-long European Council meeting that lasted from 17 to 20 July, European heads of state have agreed on the recovery package and the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2021-2027.
ALDE Party President Hans van Baalen congratulated Charles Michel, President of the European Council, for heading the tough negotiations and highlighted the importance of the meeting when it comes to rebuilding and strengthening European economies.
President van Baalen also said:
“EU Council President Charles Michel was able to broker an agreement on MFF and the EU Recovery Plan which united North, South, East and West, larger and smaller member states, stronger and more fragile economies. By doing so, Charles Michel has not only established his leadership but has also secured a leading role for the European Union in fighting COVID-19 and economic recovery which will not only help Europeans but will have a positive effect on the world as a whole! I am proud that Charles belongs to the European liberal family!”
