Since its foundation in 1948, the Free Democratic Party (FDP) has contributed to major milestones in the German history including the adoption of the most liberal constitution and the introduction of the social market economy; the successful Western integration, the new "Ostpolitik" and German reunification. The Free Democrats believe in human rights, the rule of law, free trade, a strong social market economy and equal chances for all. Under the banner of "German Courage" - as opposed to the concept of "German Angst" - FDP strives to empower individuals and promote economic growth and social progress.
