Greek Individual members discuss quality of life in cities

The event series of ALDE Party's individual members in Greece to discuss "Quality of Life in a Modern Urban Environment" was successfully completed in Athens, closing a series of events for the summer period.

The event was welcomed by the President of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Konstantinos Michalos, who in his address stressed the need to convene social bodies and parties to protect the environment, security and improve the quality of life of citizens in the urban centres.

The President of the Athens Police Force, Dimosthenis Pakos, referred to the need to improve the sense of security for the citizens as a foundation for the proper functioning of the urban centres and ultimately of the liberal democracy.

The President of the Athens Chamber of Commerce, Stavros Kafounis, referred to the problems faced by the business world and the difficulties faced by citizens in their attempt to try improving their jobs

Then, the country coordinator of ALDE's individual members in Greece, Menelaos Spyrakos, took the floor stressing the need to give more degrees of freedom to self-government to face the challenges of tomorrow and to find that the present Greek government is depriving freedoms of centralised governance models.

Finally, the District Governor of Central Greece, Kostas Bakoyannis, stated that self-government has the obligation to find ways to improve the lives of citizens even where the central administration does not allow it.

The whole event was co-ordinated by the Chair of the ALDE Party Individual Members Steering Committee, Thalia Ntoka, who addressed that we should all feel European citizens, that many of our problems are common and there is a need to work together.

The whole event was held in a very good climate with all participants expecting more similar events from ALDE Party's Individual Membership in the future.
