ALDE Party President and VVD delegation leader in the European Parliament Hans van Baalen MEP has decided not to seek a third mandate as Member of the European Parliament. Van Baalen is convinced that, after 10 years in Brussels and Strasbourg, it is time for a new generation to take over. Van Baalen: “Looking at the daunting challenges facing the European Union and the new European Parliament, it is time for Europe to renew itself. Therefore, I believe it is also time for a generation change.”
He will, however, with full energy and commitment, continue his mandate as ALDE Party President and play his role to help bring together relevant political forces for the 2019 European elections. “We may not fail to unite the liberal and democratic, pro-European centre,” Van Baalen said. “I will remain to be committed to European and international liberalism and VVD.”
Hans van Baalen was interviewed by Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf on his decision not to seek a third mandate.
I have decided not to seek a 3rd mandate as MEP. After nearly 10 years, I believe it is time for a new generation to take over.
