Following the elections in France and Slovenia on 24 April, Renew Europe congratulated the re-elected President of France, Emmanuel Macron, for his historic victory against far-right candidate Marine Le Pen, and expressed relief at the departure of right-wing populist Janez Janša in Slovenia.
Stéphane Séjourné, President of Renew Europe said:
"The French people have chosen a new era of renewal, confidence in our values and unprecedented economic and environmental ambition. Long live Europe!"
"With a strong France at the heart of the EU, it's time for pro-Europeans to unite and continue to renew our Union so it can deliver for citizens in changing times."
Commenting on the election results in Slovenia, Séjourné said:
"These results are bad news for illiberals and a chance to make Europe stronger. The EU & Slovenia are better off without the right-wing populist Janša, who attacked the free press and democratic institutions in Slovenia. Europe needs a free, pro-EU and green Slovenia at the heart of the European project! We stand with our Renew Europe member LMS and hope that the new leading party of Mr. Golob will succeed in forming a strong liberal democratic government. Our Renew Europe family will stand behind this wind of change."
Today’s victory of President Macron in France and the defeat of PM Jansa in Slovenia confirm our new era of European politics.
