Individual members meet the MEPs

On Wednesday 27 November in Strasbourg, France, ALDE Party’s individual members had the unique chance to meet Liberal Members of the European Parliament and discuss their priorities for the new mandate 2019-2024.

With the participation of European Parliament Vice-President Nicola Beer (FDP, Germany), Catherine Bearder (Liberal Democrats, United Kingdom) and ALDE Party Vice-President Ilhan Kyuchyuk (MRF, Bulgaria) our individual members discussed topical issues such as Europe’s foreign and security policy, the fight against climate change, the digitalisation of Europe’s economy, Brexit, and constitutional questions such as transnational lists.

Ilhan Kyuchyuk said: “I am happy to host ALDE Party’s individual members in Strasbourg to discuss with colleagues our liberal priorities for the European Union in the next 5 years. As ALDE Party Vice-President I am proud that we’re the only pan-European party where individuals can become members and get involved.”

In addition, Carmen Descamps of Friedrich Naumann Foundation and individual members' country coordinator for France Yves Robert also presented words of welcome.

While being in Strasbourg, one of the individual members’ country coordinators from Italy, Diana Severati, commemorated Antonio Megalizzi. At last year’s terrorist attack on the Strasbourg Christmas market, the then 29-year-old individual member and journalist was among the victims.

Closing words were give by Silvia Fernandez of the individual members' Steering Committee.

The event was hosted in the “Association des parlementaires européens” and co-hosted by Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Europe and ALDE Party’s individual members.
