Last weekend, Iniciativa Liberal, ALDE member party in Portugal, named its lead candidate for the European elections in May.
Topping the list is a renowned economist Ricardo Arroja, followed by Catarina Maia, a professor.
Upon his election, Arroja highlighted the party’s stance towards emerging radicalism witnessed by many other European Member States: “Radicalisms, be they left or right, should all be avoided and, therefore, the Liberal Initiative is against any radicalism and nationalism.”
Ricardo Arroja and Catarina Maia are people with “solid liberal thinking and the ability to convey these ideas,” concluded the party president Carlos Guimarães Pinto.
