Dutch liberals are strong in municipal elections

On 14-16 March, Dutch ALDE Party Members VVD and D66 maintained their presence on the local level in municipal elections. VVD won 11.5% of votes, remaining the most popular party after local parties, and D66 secured fourth place with 8.6% of votes. The election had a total turnout of 50.4%, which is an all-time low.

Co-President travels to Romania-Ukraine border to support refugees

Last week, ALDE Party acting Co-President Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP joined representatives from Romanian ALDE Party member USR PLUS in the Maramureș county at the Romania-Ukraine border, to provide support to refugees arriving in the country, gain insights into the current border situation and reiterate our unwavering liberal support for the people of Ukraine during this challenging time.

UK-EU relations develop at subnational level via Renew CoR

On 18 March, Renew Europe CoR President François Decoster participated on the first meeting of the European Committee of the Regions UK Contact Group in Cardiff. Taking place for the first time in the United Kingdom, participants discussed youth mobility and energy security and were joined by Mark Drakeford, First Minister of Wales.

Pay Transparency will help end the unjustified pay gap between men and women

Last week, a vital step was taken to end the unjustified gender pay gap in Europe, when the European Parliament Committees on Women's Rights and Gender Equality and Employment and Social Affairs adopted a report on how to strengthen the principle of equal pay for equal work through pay transparency. Renew Europe is a firm defender of gender equality.

Renew Europe proposes new measures to respond to Russian invasion of Ukraine

Renew Europe has welcomed all the unprecedented measures taken so far to respond to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and has now outlined additional proposals with three objectives: to counter Putin’s regime, support the Ukrainian people and strengthen the European Union. Renew Europe President Stéphane Séjourné is also calling on the EU to increase the financial and economic blockade of Putin and Lukashenka regimes.
