ALDE President participates in Council of Liberal Presidents meeting

ALDE President Hans van Baalen participated on 7 April in the third meeting of the Council of Liberal Presidents with colleagues from Asia (CALD), Africa (ALN), the Middle East (ALF) and Latin America (RELIAL) to discuss challenges and how to cooperate together in the global liberal response to the pandemic.

MRF gains seats in parliament as Bulgaria votes for change

After almost a year of prolonged protests and amid rising COVID-19 cases, Bulgarian citizens vote in large numbers for change in the parliamentary elections held on Sunday 4 April. The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), ALDE Party member party returns stronger to parliament after winning 10.5% of the vote and gaining four additional seats.

Yabloko congress adopts reform proposals ahead of elections

Delegates to the 21st Congress of the Yabloko Party during the weekend of 3-4 April adopted a package of key proposals for reforming the party, ahead of the scheduled Parliamentary elections in September.

Renew welcomes infringement procedure against Poland’s ‘muzzle law’

The Renew Europe Group welcomed on 31 March the European Commission's announcement that it will launch an infringement procedure against Poland over the "muzzle law". The Renew Europe Group has called for this many times and thanks Commissioners Didier Reynders and Věra Jourová for their continuous fight to tirelessly uphold the rule of law in Poland and in any other Member State where it is under threat.

Relaunching EU-Turkey relations must be based on a return to democratic values

Ahead of the visit to Ankara on 6 April by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council Charles Michel, Renew Europe called for any new relationship with Turkey to be based on fundamental democratic values.
