Naša stranka takes seat in Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe

Bosnia and Herzegovina has been a member of the Council of Europe since 2002 but until now, no liberals from the country have held a seat in its Parliamentary Assembly. Following the success of ALDE Party member Naša stranka in last year’s elections, Sabina Ćudić this week became the first liberal member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

FDP elects delegates for ALDE Party Congress

From 21-23 April, members of FDP in Germany came together for their party Congress. Delegates heard from leader and Finance Minister Christian Lindner on topics such as the economy, digitalisation and climate, held elections for the party board, nominated Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann as FDP lead candidate for the 2024 European elections and voted for their delegation to the upcoming ALDE Party Congress in Stockholm.

Renew Europe CoR President journeys to Ukraine

Last week, François Decoster, President of Renew Europe Group in the European Committee of the Regions and Mayor of Saint-Omer, France, travelled to Ukraine as part of a select delegation of Mayors and regional leaders. During the visit, he met with local officials to discuss Ukraine’s future reconstruction, covering topics such as local democracy and good governance.

MEPs call for sanctions on those responsible for Vladimir Kara-Murza sentence

Renew Europe condemns the conviction of Vladimir Kara-Murza by Russian authorities, and urges the Council to adopt tough sanctions under the EU’s global human rights sanctions regime against Russian judges, prosecutors and all those responsible for the sentence. Liberal MEPs, including ALDE Party Co-President Ilhan Kyuchyuk, highlighted this issue during the European Parliament plenary session last week.

Renew Europe welcomes Markets in Crypto-assets Regulation

Renew Europe welcomes the European Parliament’s backing of the Markets in Crypto-assets Regulation, which makes the EU the first global jurisdiction to have a comprehensive and sound framework for trading in digital assets, by clearly defining the regulatory treatment of crypto-assets that are not covered by existing financial services legislation. The Group has been a leading voice in the European debate on crypto since 2020.
