ALDE President Hans van Baalen in memoriam

It is with profound sadness and with a heavy heart that we announce that Mr Hans van Baalen, ALDE Party President, passed away peacefully in the late hours of Thursday 29 April, after a short illness. The thoughts and condolences of the ALDE Party Bureau, Secretariat, and the entire liberal family are with his family at this tragic time.

ALDE statement on Russia entry ban

The ALDE Party Bureau has today released a statement strongly condemning Russia’s decision to ban entry for eight leading European politicians and Member State officials, including European Commission Vice President Věra Jourová and President of the ALDE group in the Council of Europe parliamentary assembly, Jacques Maire.

ALDE Party launches Action Plan on the Future of Europe

This week, the ALDE Party launched its Future of Europe Action Plan with a citizens’ dialogue. ALDE Party Vice-President Alexander Lambsdorff, ELF President Hilde Vautmans and LYMEC President Antoaneta Asenova shared their insights on how they envisage the European Union to be in the coming years and answered several questions posed by the audience. The event was held in memory of late ALDE President Hans van Baalen.

MR holds traditional 1 May Congress

This Saturday, ALDE Party member Mouvement Reformateur (MR) in Belgium held its traditional 1 May Congress to celebrate labour day. In his speech, party leader Georges-Louis Bouchez called for a range of reforms, including support to Belgian youth, improving work-life balance, reforming pension system and creating more jobs, among others.

Co-chair of the Conference on the Future of Europe Guy Verhofstadt met with the Renew Europe Group in the European Committee of the Regions. He highlighted the opportunity COFOE gives for citizens to discuss the future of Europe and establish a vision for the EU for the 21st century, among others.

Renew Europe welcomes step forward for rail passenger rights

On 29 April, a new regulation on rail passenger rights was endorsed by the European Parliament. The Renew Europe Group welcomes provisions in the regulation to improve access to rail services for people with disabilities and reduced mobility and is proud to have ensured that, in the case of a force majeure, most of the rights enshrined in this regulation remain protected.
