ALDE Party VP discusses Ukraine’s EU membership at Danish Democracy Festival

On On Saturday 18 June, Venstre – the Liberal Party of Denmark hosted a political talk on a liberal future for Ukraine and Europe at the Folkemødet, the Democracy Festival of Denmark held annually on the island of Bornholm. ALDE Party Vice President Henrik Bach Mortensen hosted the discussion with Morten Løkkegaard MEP and Mykhailo Vydoinyk, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Denmark.

Young liberal women get empowered at the AOH Academy in Budapest

The Alliance Of Her Academy hosted its second session for the 2022 youth class in partnership with LYMEC from 16 to 19 June in Budapest. Over the weekend, class members took part in an intense and engaging agenda including experts across a range of areas relevant to succeeding in political life such as Hungarian MEPs Anna Júlia Donáth and Katalin Cseh.

Iulian Bulai, new Chair of ALDE PACE

On June 20, the ALDE Group at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council Of Europe, PACE, elected Iulian Bulai as new Chair. Bulai, member of ALDE Party Romanian member party USR Plus takes over the Presidency from Jaques Maire.

D66 members vote against abortion reflection period

D66 adopted a motion to ‘End the compulsory period of reflection to terminate a pregnancy’ at their 115th Congress. This is a clear reaction to the American current bill that is being discussed banning all abortions from conception. On Tuesday 21 June, the deletion of the compulsory reflection period was adopted by the First Chamber of Representatives.

ALDE Party shares condolences at passing of Uffe Ellemann-Jensen

It is with great sadness the ALDE Party learned of the passing of Uffe Ellemann-Jensen, one of Europe's and the liberal family’s great statesmen and visionaries. The thoughts and condolences of the ALDE Party Bureau, Secretariat, and the entire liberal family are with his family and his political family at this difficult time. May he rest in peace.

The decline of rural areas is an existential threat

On 15-16 June, over 450 participants representing EU, national, and regional policy makers along with local authorities, social and economic stakeholders gathered for the first Rural Pact conference. They agreed on the governance of the Rural Pact and committed to achieving the long-term vision for the EU’s rural areas.

Renew Europe urges EU Council to grant candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova, and work to grant same status to Georgia

Renew Europe welcomed last week’s historic announcement by the European Commission to recommend that the European Council grant EU candidate status to Ukraine and Republic of Moldova, following their applications to become members of the European Union. At the same time, Renew Europe calls on the EU to continue working towards granting the same status to Georgia.

12th WTO Ministerial Conference shows relevance of multilateralism

After long and difficult negotiations, the 164 WTO Member States reached a deal at the 12th Ministerial Conference, which took place last week. Renew Europe welcomes this deal, which covers and addresses several important issues. Even if the negotiations were not easy, the most important thing is that the WTO member states continue to discuss, move forward, and deliver together.
