Europe’s liberals condemn violence at Pride Parades in Tbilisi and Zagreb

Over the last week, at least two Pride parades have been disrupted by violent homophobic attacks. This is the continuation of a disturbing trend of homophobic actions in Europe over the past few months and years. Far-right politicians are weaponising equal rights and using the LGBTIQ+ community as an outlet for hatred and to create division. Europe’s liberals will always stand with the LGBTIQ+ community.

Europe’s liberals present plan on launching proceedings against Hungary with other MEPs

Renew Europe Vice President Katalin Cseh MEP (Momentum, Hungary) was one of the four MEPs who presented the legal arguments, written by legal scholars, for the European Commission to trigger the Rule of Law Conditionality Regulation with respect to Hungary on 7 July.

Daniels Pavļuts re-elected Chairman as Kustība "Par!" convenes for congress

On Saturday 3 July, the ALDE Party member in Latvia Kustība "Par!" held its Congress and elected a new board and debated political objectives for the next political cycle. The congress was opened by Daniels Pavļuts, current Minister for Health in the Latvian government, who was re-elected by members as the leader of the party.

Yabloko to nominate young candidates for the State Duma elections

Over the weekend, ALDE party member party in Russia, Yabloko, held its pre-election Congress in Moscow and nominated its candidates for the State Duma elections scheduled to take place in September and adopted the party’s electoral programme. ALDE Party acting co-President Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP and Vice Presidents Henrik Bach Mortensen and Alexander Graf Lambsdorff MP took part in the Congress through video messages.

LYMEC holds third Digital Assembly

The European Liberal Youth (LYMEC) held its third online Digital Assembly on 3 July. The event was an opportunity to open up LYMEC’s work to its member organisations and increase transparency by offering more opportunities to meet the current leadership and discuss the challenges young people face in today’s Europe.

Renew Europe CoR: a new ‘Letter from Brussels’ available

The Renew Europe Group in the European Committee of the Regions has just published the third episode of their podcast, “Letter from Brussels”. This third episode tells the story of a pioneering Belgian woman who was well ahead of her time in the protection of biodiversity, and also looks at the value of language learning, the nominations for the Adamowicz award, LGBTIQ Freedom cities, the future of urban mobility, the threat of rural depopulation, and local youth shaping climate adaptation.

Renew Europe supports the New Asylum and Migration Fund for 2021-2027

The Renew Europe Group supports the agreement between the European Parliament and the European Council to set up the Asylum and Migration Fund for 2021-2027. This EU-funded programme will be a crucial instrument to equip Member States with tools to respond effectively and humanely to evolving migration challenges.

Suspension of Orbán's €7bn recovery plan welcomed by Renew Europe

Following the demand of Renew Europe MEPs for the approval of the Hungarian government’s recovery plan to be withheld until an effective anti-fraud system is put in place, Renew Europe welcomes the news that the European Commission will in all likelihood postpone the approval of the plan.
