Europe’s liberals react to Fit for 55 package ahead of release later today

Later today, the European Commission will unveil its proposal for the Fit for 55 package. Proposed by the European Commission and supported by the European Parliament, this package includes a majority of proposals made by the Renew Europe Group. ALDE Party has reached out to some of Europe’s liberals to hear what they think of the upcoming package and its potential in fighting climate change across different sectors.

Liberal Eyes takes a summer break

The ALDE Party’s weekly newsletter Liberal Eyes will be on a short summer break from 15 July to 22 August. The first issue after summer will be sent around on 25 August. You can still keep up with us on social media in the meantime, however!

MRF set to gain seats in parliament as Bulgaria votes in second snap elections

Three months after the last snap elections, Bulgarian citizens went to the polls again on 11 June and continued to vote for change in second snap parliamentary elections of 2021. According to the provisional results, ALDE member MRF built on its election result from April to increase its vote share to almost 11% and is likely to gain additional seats in the Parliament.

Liberals welcome landslide victory for pro-EU force in Moldova

ALDE Party acting co-President Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP has sent his congratulations to the President of Moldova Maia Sandu after her pro-European party PAS triumphed in the snap parliamentary elections held on 11 June. According to the preliminary results with all ballots counted, her PAS party has received 52.8% of the vote and will have an absolute majority in the next Parliament.

Liberal Mayors meet to discuss key topics

More than twenty liberal mayors from fifteen countries met on 8 July for the Liberal Mayors Summit. During the summit, the mayors discussed the Conference on the Future of Europe, which included a contribution by Claudia Gamon MEP (NEOS, Austria), relations with the UK post-Brexit with Sir Graham Watson and what makes cities liberal post-COVID-19.

Meeting liberal party leaders across Europe

Continuing the success of last year, the ALDE Party Secretariat has been virtually meeting with liberal party leaders from across Europe! During the past six months we have interviewed leaders from Portugal, Switzerland, Denmark, Lithuania and Bulgaria discussing key topics relevant for Europe’s future. Leaders also share interesting personal insights which you might not have previously known about!
