ALDE Party Congress: All you need to know

On 4-6 October, European liberals will gather for the next ALDE Party Congress meeting in Estoril, Portugal. Leaders and delegates from our 76 member parties will elect the next ALDE Party President and six Vice-Presidents, vote on a series of urgency resolutions and take part in various thematic debates and events across the three-day event.

NEOS launch national election campaign

On 23 August, NEOS launched its electoral campaign ahead of the upcoming legislative elections in Austria on 29 September. The party presented a programme aimed at reforming Austria after years of crisis which includes proposals such as recruiting 20,000 new teachers, reducing tax burdens on citizens and increasing political transparency.

De Bleeker elected new Open VLD chair

On 25 August, Eva De Bleeker was elected as new chair of ALDE Party member Open VLD in Belgium, succeeding Tom Ongena. A former State Secretary responsible for Budget and Consumer Protection, De Bleeker received over 55% of votes from Open VLD members in the second round of voting, prevailing over second-placed candidate Vincent Verbeecke who received the remaining 45%.

Liberal leaders at Democratic National Convention

ALDE Party Co-President Timmy Dooley and Liberal International Vice-President Henrik Bach Mortensen attended the Democratic National Convention on 19-22 August in Chicago, United States. During the four-day event, Democratic Party delegates confirmed US Vice-President Kamala Harris as the party’s candidate for the upcoming Presidential election due to be held on 5 November.

ALDE Party welcomes new Junior Data Analyst

Earlier in August, we welcomed Nan Qin as ALDE Party’s new Junior Data Analyst, part of the Research & Empowerment Unit. Nan will work with her team in collecting and analysing data aimed at generating actionable insights and developing strategies that empower our ALDE Party members across Europe. Welcome!

Meet our MEPs: Democraten 66 (D66)

Follow Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy, Raquel García Hermida-van der Walle and Brigitte van den Berg as they champion the cause for a green and liberal future. D66 is taking to the European Parliament a three-strong delegation led by Gerbrandy, the only MEP ever to be awarded the Greenest Politician in the Netherlands award for his work on climate, energy, nature and sustainability.

Meet our MEPs: Keskusta and SFP

Our Finnish member parties Keskusta and SFP are united in the European Parliament. Elsi Katainen, after securing re-election as an MEP following the European elections in June, will be supported by former Keskusta leader and Finnish Minister of Economic affairs Katri Kulmuni, while Finland's former Minister of Education Anna-Maja Henriksson will represent SFP.

Meet our MEPs: Iniciativa Liberal

Portuguese liberals made history in the European elections by securing their first-ever two Members of the European Parliament. João Cotrim de Figueiredo, the party's first Member of Parliament and former chair, will lead the delegation with Ana Vasconcelos Martins, an expert in law and political science who also serves as Iniciativa Liberal's Vice-President.

Renew Europe: Elon Musk must clean his act

In a letter to European Commission Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager and European Commissioner Thierry Breton, Renew Europe called for stronger action against Elon Musk’s social media platform X. It comes amid recent political violence in Ireland sparked earlier in August by Musk’s repeated calls for “civil war” in Europe, exacerbated by his promotion of false information.
