Liberals nominate candidates for European Commission

All 27 European Union member states have formalised their nominees for the next European Commission mandate, with five liberal, democrat and centrist candidates set to take up key roles as EU Commissioners. The group of 27 will form the College of Commissioners – the European Commission’s political leadership – fronted by President Ursula von der Leyen.

Venstre gain new Minister in government reshuffle

On 29 August, the Danish Prime Minister announced the creation of three new ministerial positions as part of a government reshuffle. ALDE Party member Venstre, member of the three-party coalition government, gained one of the new ministries as Torsten Schack Pedersen was named the new Minister for Community Security and Preparedness.

Moldovan liberals confirm presidential candidate

On 20 August, CUB confirmed leader Igor Munteanu as the party's candidate for the presidential elections in Moldova on 20 October. The party will need to collect at least 15,000 signatures in support of Munteanu across Moldova’s 20 electoral districts to ensure the nomination can be registered by the country’s Central Election Commission.

ALDE Party welcomes new Multimedia Officer

On 2 October, we welcomed Juan Vadillo to the ALDE Party offices in Brussels as our new Multimedia Officer, part of the Communication & Events Unit. Juan brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in audiovisual communication, having just completed an experience with the European Parliament delegation of our ALDE Party member Ciudadanos from Spain.

Apply to become a Renew Europe CoR trainee!

Applications to become a Cicero trainee for the Renew Europe Group in the European Committee of the Regions are open until 30 September. Successful candidates will work in the Committee of the Regions’ headquarters in Brussels for a total of five months, from mid-February to mid-July 2025, assisting in local policy research and analysis.

Meet our MEPs: Liberalerna

Karin Karlsbro won re-election as a Member of the European Parliament as lead candidate for our member party Liberalerna in Sweden. Since becoming an MEP in 2019, Karlsbro has been serving on the Committee on International Trade and has been working on the EU’s law on deforestation. In the next mandate, she will continue to focus on developing sustainable policies for the European Union.

Meet our MEPs: Fianna Fáil

ALDE Party member Fianna Fáil in Ireland doubled its representation in the European Parliament, bringing its total number of MEPs from two to four. The delegation is led by Renew Europe's First Vice-President Billy Kelleher MEP, a former Irish Minister for Trade, Commerce and Labour Affairs who specialises in economics and financial policies.

Meet our MEPs: USR

ALDE Party Vice-President Dan Barna and Romania's former Minister of Health Vlad Voiculescu make up USR's delegation in the hemicycle. Barna, a former Secretary of State of the Ministry of European Funds, led USR's rise from opposition to government in his five years as President of USR, setting a new standard for good governance in Romania.
