Official: Candidates for ALDE Party Bureau published

ALDE Party received one nomination for the role of President and 11 for the role of Vice-President in the next ALDE Party Bureau. A new President and six Vice-Presidents will be elected at the upcoming ALDE Party Congress in Portugal on 4-6 October. Current Vice-President Svenja Hahn MEP, from our German member FDP, is the only candidate for ALDE Party President.

European Commissioner candidates: Portfolios announced

Five liberal, centrist and democrat Commissioners are set to take key portfolios in Ursula von der Leyen's second European Commission and will be in the driving seat to renew Europe. All designated Commissioners will need to be approved by the European Parliament through a hearing with MEPs in the next weeks before they can start their roles this autumn.

Radikale: Time to fight for EU energy independence

On 14-15 September, Radikale Venstre held a party Congress (Landsmøde) in Nyborg, Denmark. Sigrid Friis Frederiksen MEP highlighted the successes of Radikale’s European election campaign which led to her winning a seat as MEP in June. In the European Parliament, she will be Renew Europe's deputy coordinator of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy.

Lib Dems celebrate election success at Conference

The Liberal Democrats gathered for their annual Autumn Conference in Brighton over the weekend of 14-17 September, with members buoyant following the historic success achieved at the last general election. Party leader Ed Davey pledged the party would act as the constructive and responsible opposition to the new Labour government.

Kustība "Par!" elects new party leader

Linda Curika was elected as the new leader of ALDE Party member Kustība "Par!" in Latvia at a party Congress on 14 September.  During Congress, members reviewed the results of the European Parliament elections, adopted amendments to the party's statutes, and discussed priorities for the upcoming 2025 municipal elections in Latvia.

Meet our MEPs: Mouvement Reformateur (MR)

European Parliament Vice-President and former Belgian Prime Minister Sophie Wilmès leads Mouvement Reformateur in the European Parliament. The three-strong delegation is completed by Benoît Cassart, a farmer and breeder from the village of Havelange, and former MR President Olivier Chastel, who was re-elected for a second mandate.

Meet our MEPs: Venstre (DK)

Morten Løkkegaard and Asger Christensen are back in the European Parliament to represent Venstre. Løkkegaard has served as a Member of the European Parliament and the Danish Parliament intermittently since 2009, while Christensen, a farm owner and former local councillor in Denmark, specialises in agricultural and rural policy.

Meet our MEPs: Eesti Reformierakond

Urmas Paet covered various key roles in Estonia, including Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Culture. He has been a Member of the European Parliament since the 2014 European elections, first serving on the Committee on Budgets, Committee on Foreign Affairs and its Subcommittee on Security and Defence. He is now into a third mandate representing the Estonian Reform Party.

Ukraine: Lift restrictions on use of weapons

Renew Europe called on countries supplying defence systems to Ukraine to lift restrictions on the use of weapons, as to allow strikes on legitimate targets within Russia’s territory. These restrictions hamper the ability of Ukraine to effectively counter Russian attacks on its cities and infrastructure, which increase the already staggering civilian death toll.
